Your passion.
Paraphrased statements such as “I want to be a doctor because Of the money…” or “I’m good at making art, I’ll become an art director.” What motives do you allow to influence decisions? are your motives extrinsic or intrinsic? There is a difference between a passion, a hobby, and a haunting interest. One will bring you more happiness than the other.
Personally I always thought of art as my passion. Not once did it occur to me that it was only that: a personal passion not a career. It was a way to express myself. As the years go by, I realize that it is not what “haunts” me but a method that contributes to whom I am. There were certain aspects about art that did not agree with my personality. First of all, I am an extrovert who at certain times prefers alone time. An extrovert retrieves energy from being around others. Now the life of an artist requires more alone time. There was a certain part of me that wanted the process of art to be the standing out aspect and not the end product. I wanted to paint in front of people but more importantly speak and meet people.
Think to yourself what is it that you do in your free time where you are happy and that you keep on doing no matter what. Sometimes it is necessary for someone to help us realize this. A computer program only takes into account yes or no answers which do not take into account your personality. My results were always art director, costume,m designer, and many other artistic careers. Art is one part of my life but a larger aspect is how I find relationships, meeting new people, language, and different cultures all haunting interests. These concepts haunt my Google bar along with my spare time.
I went from thinking of being an art therapist to passionately traveling the path of a foreign service officer. to sum up clearly these thoughts. Do not base your decisions solely on salaries or hobbies. Try to hone in on what drives you crazily happy with the mere innuendo of it!
